Royal Observatory, Edinburgh

PACIFIC’S relations with academic and research institutions were extended when they completed a five-week refurbishment of the Bruck Building at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh.

This landmark structure on Blackford Hill is home to the UK Astronomy Technology Centre of the Science and Technology Facilities Council, the Institute for Astronomy of the School of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Edinburgh, and the ROE Visitor Centre.

The renovation works were applied to the Institute for Astronomy and involved upgrades of existing offices and rooms.

Comprehensive improvements included the installation of new timber framing and partitions, including framing of existing walls and insulation, forming new offices.

In addition, all doors were replaced and new glazed screens were installed. Existing ceilings were taken down and replaced with new grids and tiles, complete with replacement LED light fittings.

The project was commenced on September 14, 2020, and handed over to the clients on November 18.

A fresh, modern look and calm atmosphere generated by the neutral materials now greets visitors to the building, where collaborative working and shared social spaces are highly valued.
