As a world leading hotel, Gleneagles is renowned for luxury and exclusivity. Situated at the heart of Perthshire, it also boasts one of the world’s finest golf courses.
In advance of Gleneagles’ hosting of the 2014 Ryder Cup, Pacific Building were tasked with the conversion of an existing wing of bedrooms and suites into an area suitable for both retail and public use.
In its strategic planning, the hotel had identified a need to appeal to customers with older children. So a place for teenagers to chill out (The Zone) had to be created, in addition to a new crèche.
As ongoing works in the spa area had engulfed many of the hotel’s facilities, a nail bar and pedicure area, a hairdressing salon and traditional gent’s barbers and both ladies’ and gents’ cloakrooms were also planned.
The hotel continued to be fully operational throughout the works, which required a great deal of forward planning.
As major structural alterations were required, the removal of debris and the installation of structural steel had to be undertaken without hindrance to the operation.
To accommodate this, temporary openings and routes for hotel guests were created. As the hotel is a 24/7 operation, it was crucial that appropriate shift patterns and task scheduling were utilised to ensure that the work was completed, not only within the necessary timescales but with the minimum disruption for guests and staff. Noisy or dusty work is unacceptable in the context of a relaxing hotel and spa experience.
The completed works were to five-star standards, perfectly complementing the opulent style and features of the original hotel building. Despite working in a demanding environment, Pacific Building delivered an extremely high standard of finish for a client that consistently demands the best. Gleneagles represents the finest service experience for guests, and we were delighted to play a part in its delivery.
