Commodore Inn, Helensburgh

The charming Commodore Inn in Helensburgh is a well-loved country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character.

It is set in picturesque surroundings on the esplanade at Helensburgh in Dunbartonshire, overlooking the Gareloch and Firth of Clyde, with fabulous views down the Estuary and up to magical Argyll.

The natural surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub food on the Commodore menu.

Pacific were entrusted with a high-value refurbishment of this bar/restaurant which boasts, among other things, roaring log fires, comfy seating, warm wood panelling, shelves and nooks brimming with bric-a-brac and, for summer time, a beer garden.

The 16-day programme saw the Commodore close down for just five days while works got under way, resulting in the minimum disruption to trade.

The project involved:

  • The installation of beautiful feather edge boarding
  • Decoration
  • Lighting replacement
  • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing works
  • Replacement of beer and wine fonts
  • New carpeting and matting
  • New bar and glass to rear
  • New doors
  • Full makeover of ladies’ and gents’ washrooms
  • Installation of furniture
  • External and internal signage

The Commodore is close to a host of interesting attractions, including The Hill House in Helensburgh, which is Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s finest domestic creation. Dumbarton Castle is about a 10-minute drive away and Loch Lomond Shores is equally near.

The restaurant is popular with day trippers, walkers, golfers, fishermen and seafarers.
For those wishing to tarry a little longer than just lunch or dinner, adjacent to the pub is a Travelodge hotel.
