GLASGOW International Airport is extremely busy, handling in excess of nine million passengers every year. And with increasing pressure to answer travellers’ demands for new routes to Europe and beyond, the airport infrastructure needs to be fit for purpose. So, as part of the ongoing upgrade at GLA, Gate 26 underwent an extensive refurbishment, courtesy of Pacific Building.
Liaison with the client was key, in order to minimise disruption to airport operations. And Pacific’s huge experience of working on projects large and small at airports came into play, as the company exploited the benefits of having an office close to the airport perimeter and having staff who have the knowledge, experience and clearance to work in landside, airside, aircraft-manoeuvring and security- sensitive areas. The works carried out involved the removal of existing partitions, ceilings and floor finishes; mechanical and electrical installation; new bulkheads, suspended ceilings, flooring and wall linings; new fire doors; a new stainless steel and glass balustrade; the installation of a new desk; full decoration and new gate signage.
Gate 26 is now open and serving the growing number of passengers using Glasgow International Airport every year. The clean lines and smart finishes allied to muted colours and comfortable furnishing make for a pleasant passenger experience.
