Pacific had to fit out to a demanding deadline a brand new executive lounge for British Airways at Aberdeen Airport. Starting from scratch, the new facility had to be completely fashioned anew within a recently constructed and empty first-floor concrete extension to the main terminal building.
Working in partnership with top-line architects and design consultants, Pacific had to ensure that the lounge met the rigorous standards and features specified by the clients, who had earmarked Aberdeen as the location for a new lounge as part of a £4.5 billion corporate makeover. The global project had begun with a new lounge at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and would continue after Aberdeen with another new one at JFK in New York.
At first glance, working with a “blank canvas” may seem like a simple operation but Pacific had to draw on their vast experience of making concepts come to life in demanding “live” environments that are security-sensitive.
Attention to detail was critical, as was close liaison with partner organisations, stakeholders and sub-contractors as each stage of the project moved forward. Pacific’s particular expertise of delivering projects at airports was key. Many of their staff have the necessary official clearance to operate safely and professionally in airside, landside and aircraft-manoeuvring areas. Furthermore, Pacific boast a permanent base on the apron at Glasgow International Airport.
The BA lounge is truly striking – and is an exceptional addition to an improved passenger experience at Aberdeen. From lighting, to flooring, to full-length windows, to granite bar tops, to dining areas and comprehensive electronic connectivity systems and WiFi, it boasts everything the modern traveller requires.
