Pacific Building Create 'First of its Kind' Facility at Silverburn Shopping Centre
When two vital community services formed an important partnership in Pollok, the next step for Pollok Credit Union and Post Office was to find a new home to offer their combined services – and to find a construction company who would be able to create this space within tight timescales for the best value cost, and to the highest specifications.
The Pollok Post Office facility was the only remaining unit in the old market area of the existing Pollok Centre, and was recently saved from closure when Pollok Credit Union stepped in to run the branch. The two services will operate from one branch at Silverburn Shopping Centre, with a unit soon to open within the Garden are of the mall. The facility will continue to offer the same level of service, but footfall is expected to rise dramatically within the new location.
Pacific Building were tasked with the full formation of the facility, including interview rooms, counter service areas, and all staff and back of house areas, following a successful tender bid as the best value contractors for the 7 week project.
With construction taking place within the Mall, which has been open to the public for almost two years, Pacific Building worked closely with Mall management to facilitate the works without disturbance to the operation of the mall or to any adjoining tenants: working primarily through service corridors to the rear of the centre, or operating nightshifts to ensure that minimal disruption to the mall.
Commenting on the project, Pacific Building Managing Director Brian Gallacher said:
“Our experience of working in live environments enabled us to ensure that all works were carried out to the very highest standard, while ensuring that construction had no negative impact on the public visiting the mall.
“The Silverburn centre is a fantastic facility for those residing in the South of Glasgow and beyond, and we are pleased to be involved in its continued expansion.”
Jim Garrity of Pollok Credit Union commented:
“We are delighted with our new Silverburn premises, and extend our thanks to Pacific Building for the quality of workmanship and commitment to ensuring that the project was delivered within the time specified. As Scotland’s largest community credit union, with over 8000 members, and with our acquisition of the local Post Office, we are confident that our new branch will bring many benefits to the people of Glasgow for years to come.
